“Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.” James 1:27

James 1:27 reveals that God’s moral goodness has both a social and personal dimensions.  It is common to see people glom to one or the other and often along political party lines; this is unfortunate.

It is unfortunate that the narrative of our particular political party could actually determine our core values.  Often left leaning progressives will scoff at personal moral restraint while championing public social action; conversely the right wing social conservative will often champion the legal control of personal moral choices while ignoring and even objecting to social action for the marginalized and deprived.

There’s a lot wrong headed about both narratives. Leave it to the word of God to give us comprehensive and wise counsel that doesn’t neglect orphans and widows or wink at slimy personal moral choices.  Oh I love the word of God.
